The ProtectCircuit Kit provides a simple power supply board. It is designed for one or two batteries (or other power sources) to be connected to it in series and has two protected power lines. The first provides the combined voltage of both batteries for motor controllers, solenoid controllers, and other high-power devices connected to four screw terminals. The other is for logic devices and is regulated to 3.3V (we also have a 5V version) and can be connected to one of seven header bays using standard 2.54mm (0.1") pitch connectors.
Both lines are individually fused (by default, 5A for logic and 15A for motors) using ProtectCircuit Mini Blade Fuses that automatically light up if they blow. Spikes in the power supply are mitigated with on board decoupling capacitors and each line is also independently controlled using a switch (not included) that can be connected to the appropriate screw terminals.
To handle any combination of logic devices, a 5A LM1084 voltage regulator is supplied with a heat sink and the necessary mounting parts if required. To enable easy working with popular I2C devices, ProtectCircuit provides seven sets of connectors each with the I2C SCL and SDA lines plus logic power (3.3V) and ground. Two 10k pull-up resistors are included to be connected to the I2C lines. This allows not only the microcontroller but also the sensors to be easily powered and connected. Up to six slave I2C devices can be connected to an I2C master (microcontroller) on a ProtectCircuit system.
To maximise the power for any connected motors and linear actuators, we recommend connecting two 7.5V batteries (e.g. 2S LiPos) to achieve 15V.
This is the 3.3V version, meaning it regulates the logic lines to 3.3V. We also sell a 5V version.
ProtectCircuit is supplied in kit form requiring only soldering to assemble. When fully assembled, it is 70x40x26mm (L x W x H) and weighs 35g. One 5A and one 15A fuses with inbuilt indicators are included. Other fuse values are available for purchase.
